Food n' Frame | Zest Cafe @ Bangsar South

Located at Bangsar South, Zest Cafe is a cosy restaurant which offers delicious & healthy Mediterranean-inspired cuisine using fresh ingredients, 100% olive oil and no added-MSG. With the festive season just around the corner, Zest Cafe is featuring their ?Zesty Christmas Set Meal? which comes with a soup, salad, main course and fruit cooler. The set costs RM 28.80+ and it will be available throughout the month of December.

Breads were served as starter to keep our tummy from rumbling before the food review session began. Zest Cafe offers these bread as part of their usual menu and it is not included in the Christmas set.

The slices of toasted Panini bread served with pesto sauce were appetizing and kick-started our appetite.

We were given an opportunity to taste each of the item featured in the set meal. The Pea Soup with Carrot Swirl was specially created for the Christmas menu. The idea of using pea as the soup base with orange carrot swirl as well as reddish croutons is to combine green, orange and red together in line with the Christmas festivity. According to Zest Cafe, the bits of croutons were homemade and drizzled with Paprika to give a reddish tone to the bread crumbs. Overall, the soup has an interesting taste of pea flavour combined with the spicy taste of croutons.

The Zesty Turkey Salad with Pumpkin & Barley was inspired from the range of salads that are already in their menu. To give it an interesting twist as well as to create a more Christmas atmosphere, Zest Cafe has fashioned their salad that includes ingredients such as Turkey meat, pumpkins, olive and Romaine lettuce which has a crunchier texture.

The inclusion of the boiled barley which was rather unusual was to give a sweet taste to the dish when all the ingredients are mixed together.

Rosemary Chicken Thigh with BBQ Sauce & Mashed Potato is the first main course to be featured during the food review. The chicken thigh is marinated with two steps for around six hours.

The first marinating step is to soften the meat texture while the second is to allow the chicken thigh to absorb in all the spices. Once the chicken is marinated, it is then pan-grilled.

In line with up keeping their beliefs in serving only healthy food, Zest Cafe waited three months for a special coating to arrive. This coating is used specifically for the fried chicken in the Fried Chicken Tenders with Cheezy Sauce & Spaghetti dish. Similar to Tempura, the coating does not retain any oil on the fried chicken. They also used a milder cheese to cater to most Malaysians? taste buds.

Fish Slices with Spiced Rice consists of a lightly pan grilled Garoupa, drizzled with olive and serve with pilav rice which are of Thai variant.

According to Zest Cafe, they chose to use the Thai rice over Basmati as it is slightly starchy.

We were also treated with the Dragon Fruit drink. Dragon fruit by itself has no taste but since Zest Cafe loves the natural purple colour of the fruit, they decided to add sugar syrup and lime to give it a sweeter taste.

For those who are curious, Zest Cafe got its name from the word ?Zest? which signifies the common ingredient used in kitchen (lemon zest) as well as the culture of the company (energy and passion). If you are looking for a cosy place to enjoy nutritious & healthy food, do drop by Zest Cafe to get a taste of their Mediterranean inspired cuisine.
