BEIRUT (AP) ? A weekend massacre of more than 100 people emerged as a potential turning point in the Syrian crisis Monday, galvanizing even staunch ally Russia to take an unusually hard line against President Bashar Assad's government.

Analysts said Russia may be warning Assad that he needs to change course or lose Moscow's support, which has been a key layer of protection for the Syrian government during the uprising that began in March 2011.

Russia has grown increasingly critical of Damascus in recent months, but Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's latest comments were unusually strong. Although he said opposition forces have terrorists among them, he put the blame for 15 months of carnage primarily on Assad's government.

"The government bears the main responsibility for what is going on," Lavrov said in Moscow following a meeting with British Foreign Secretary William Hague. "Any government in any country bears responsibility for the security of its citizens."

Alexei Malashenko, a Middle East expert with the Carnegie Moscow Center, said Lavrov's comments suggest Russia may be backing away from its long-standing support for Damascus.

"Bashar Assad is driving himself and Russia into a corner," Malashenko said. "Bashar has definitely gotten the sense that he may lose Russia's sympathy, and he may step back a bit."

It is not clear whether Assad's forces were exclusively to blame for the slaughter of 108 people Friday in Houla, a collection of poor farming villages in Homs province. The United Nations said 49 children and 34 women were among the dead; some had bullet holes through their heads.

The U.N. Security Council blamed Syrian forces for artillery and tank shelling of residential areas, but it did not clearly state who was responsible for the close-range shooting deaths and "severe physical abuse" of civilians.

Activists from the area said the army pounded the villages with artillery and clashed with local rebels. They said pro-government gunmen later stormed the area, doing the bulk of the killing by gunning down men in the streets and stabbing women and children in their homes.

The Syrian government rejected that account entirely, saying soldiers were attacked in their bases and fought back in self-defense without leaving their bases.

Russia blamed both the government and the rebels for the Houla massacre.

"Both sides have obviously had a hand in the deaths of innocent people, including several dozen women and children," Lavrov said. "This area is controlled by the rebels, but it is also surrounded by the government troops."

He said Russia has no interest in propping up Assad but wants Syria to guide its own transition under a plan brokered by special envoy Kofi Annan.

"We don't support the Syrian government; we support Kofi Annan's plan," Lavrov said.

Moscow's pro-Syria stance has been motivated in part by its strategic and defense ties to Damascus, including weapons sales. Russia also rejects what it sees as a world order dominated by the U.S.

Losing Russian support could be disastrous for Assad because his crackdown has left him almost completely isolated internationally. Russia and China have stood by him so far, using their veto power to block U.N. resolutions against him.

Hilal Khashan, a political science professor at the American University of Beirut, said the Houla massacre appears to be ushering in a change in Russia's position.

"There is a shift and the momentum against the regime is gathering," Khashan said. "The momentum is building and the Russians are not blocking the rising momentum."

The Syrian conflict is among the most explosive of the Arab Spring, in part because of Syria's allegiances to powerful forces, including Lebanon's Hezbollah and Shiite powerhouse Iran.

Activists say as many as 12,000 people have been killed since the uprising began. The U.N. put the toll as of March, a year into the uprising, at 9,000, but many hundreds more have died since.

Annan's peace plan, which calls for a cease-fire and dialogue, has been faltering for weeks. But Western leaders have pinned their hopes on his diplomatic pressure, since the U.S. and others are unwilling to get deeply involved in another Arab nation in turmoil.

Annan arrived in Damascus on Monday for talks with Assad and other officials and called on "every individual with a gun" in Syria to lay down arms, saying he was horrified by the Houla massacre.

Britain's Prime Minister David Cameron and French President Francois Holland spoke on the phone and expressed their desire to work with Russia to resolve the crisis in Syria. A British spokeswoman said Cameron and Hollande agreed to act together to "bring an end to the bloody suppression of the Syrian people."

Activists reported fresh violence Monday, saying troops shelled several neighborhoods in Hama, killing at least 24 people.

80's Gamer Mancave: The Complete Vintage Video Game Experience!

The popularity of Man Caves is growing by leaps and bounds. The feminine touch, once confined to the Kitchen, has spread to the living room, dining room, bedroom, bathroom, hallway and even the lawn! This leaves the average guy wondering what part of the house is HIS part of the house.

By now, most people are familial with the DIY Network show ?Man Caves,? hosted by former Baltimore Ravens defensive tackle Tony ?the Goose? Siragusa. The show follows Goose as he transforms unused garages, attics, basements or spare rooms into the ultimate monument to testosterone. But what about the average blue collar guy that doesn?t have $20,000 to sink into transforming their spare room into a man cave?

Well, if your reading this, you already know that I love vintage video games. I also love almost anything from the 1980?s. So guess what theme my man cave takes on? Now I am far from rich. In fact, I am usually playing catch up on the utility bills. But for next to nothing, I turned my extra room into an oasis of 80?s tech that my roommates often refer to as ?That 80?s Room? all without spending more than $200! Here?s how:

FURNITURE: First off you need furniture, and since you will probably be sitting on your butt for several hours playing video games, you need comfy furniture. The great thing about an 80?s themed room is it requires 80?s themed furniture. This is something the world has in abundance. You can find old furniture at thift stores, flea markets, garage sales, estate sales, or even sitting out by the curb on big trash pick-up day. I picked up a very vintage looking dining table with 4 swivel chairs at the local thrift store. It had been sitting around unsold for quite some time so I was able to get it all for $5. I recycled a bookcase I found on the curb down the street from my house, which was free, to hold my systems and games.

ELECTRONICS: No man cave (especially a vintage video game man cave) would be complete without a huge compliment of electronics. Lets start out with the tv. It is a mid-1990?s 27 inch Magnavox that a friend was just going to throw out when he upgraded to flat screen. (NOTE: It is important, not just for nostalga but for functionality, to get an older tube type tv as opposed to plasma or flat screen because for some reason, attachments such as the NES lightgun DO NOT work on flat screens!) So the TV was free.

GAMING STUFF: Connected to this is a Playstation 1, an Atari 2600, an Atari 7800, and my RetroN 3 which plays NES, Super NES and Sega Genesis games. I also have more than 150 games for the systems mentioned above. All of this was mostly aquired through trade. I would venture to say that I spent less than $100 in actual cash on all my video games and systems.

And what 80?s themed room would be complete without a rockin? Hi Fi system? This actually proved to be the hardest thing to get. Everyone over the age of 30 has a record player sitting in their basement. The downside is that most of them don?t work anymore. I bought 4 record players before I got one that worked. Of the other 3, one had a seized up motor, the other had no sound, the other had to many problems to mention. BUT since most of these Hi Fi all in ones are just sitting around collecting dust, you can get them very cheap. For all 4 I paid a total of about 20 bucks. The one that actually worked cost me $2. It is also my favorite as it includes an AM/FM stereo and a built in 8-track player! I also picked up some records for 25 cents each!

The great thing about putting a man cave together like this is that it is almost a hobby just assembling the room. My room is not finished, as I want to keep adding little touches here and there. At the top of my list right now is a working Apple Macintosh Classic computer, and some more wall hangings.? I?ll keep you up to date!

Cleantech Insights | Efficiency Finance: A new perspective

In our 2011 fourth quarter Investment Monitor, I asserted that 2012 would be ?a proving period when bets are placed, and programs and companies either mature or wilt? for efficiency finance players. This statement was a bet on consolidation in the short term. While the year has started off with some major moves (as I discuss here), attending ACEEE?s Energy Efficiency Finance Forum last week highlighted a different perspective on the market?s trajectory. Taking a longer view, it?s clear that (1) many financing options can and should flourish, and (2) the market is still in its exciting early days.

For those who follow the efficiency finance market closely, the assertion that multiple options should flourish may seem obvious. Yet, participating in the Forum?s discussions reinforced several important facts:

  • The real estate market consists of many sub-sectors, which each have unique drivers and barriers. To emphasize this point, Deutsche Bank presented its breakdown of the real estate market, which showcased 3 sectors and 17 sub-sectors. From split incentives in multi-tenant commercial buildings, to high turnover rates in residential and office buildings, each of these sectors requires unique financing solutions.
  • All finance providers are not the same. Funding for projects comes from various sources including VC?s, investment banks, and in time, secondary markets. Among these sources, appetite for risk and corresponding expected return vary drastically. As an example, executives from Citi and Deutsche Bank pointed out that developing a secondary market with low rates requires an established project risk profile that is built on decades of data points. This stands in stark contrast to investment firms like Blue Hill Partners that are interested in taking on more risk, and reaping the reward through profits.
  • Energy efficiency solutions provide differing ROI periods. The upfront capital cost and expected rates of returns on an LED project are very different than when installing a new HVAC or energy management system. So, developing projects that meet ROI expectations requires a portfolio of solutions at both the site and investment portfolio

These are just a few of the variables that financing solutions aim to align. Much of the finance discussion pits one option against another. Yet, given the market?s complexity, it seems clear that there is no silver bullet. Instead, eventually some form of many of the current structures (ESAs, On Bill Finance or Repayment, PACE, etc.) will be needed to address the market.

Second, as Sean Neill of SCIenergy pointed out during his presentation, ?this is a marathon, not a sprint?. In other words, while the finance market is growing and garnering attention in the short term, establishing a successful track record and scaling investment to meet the size of the opportunity will take time. Recent studies by Deutsche Bank and Cap E put the efficiency investment opportunity between $150 and almost $300 billion (with a B), which could yield more than $1 trillion (with a T) in energy savings over 10 years. In comparison with these numbers, current investment is in the very early stages, with the most mature companies like SCIenergy (through its recent acquisition of Transcend Equity), Metrus Energy, Green Campus Partners, and Clean Fund having completed around 50-60 projects. In this light, there is room for incredible growth of these existing players, as well as opportunities for many new entities like the recently launched New York City Energy Efficiency Corporation (NYCEEC) to catalyze the market. NYCEEC provides financing and educational resources to building owners in New York and just announced its first project, which it partnered with SCIenergy (then Transcend Equity) to develop. With around 8 more projects in the pipeline, NYCEEC may be partnering with other entities to provide financing, and growing the industry?s track record with each new project. So, while the efficiency market is still in its early days, exciting new initiatives like NYCEEC are popping up around the US. Momentum in the marathon continues to grow, and we?ll be watching as it does.

Can consumers 'fit in' yet remain unique?

ScienceDaily (May 16, 2012) ? Most consumers want to fit in while still asserting their individuality -- and they balance these conflicting desires when choosing products, according to a new study in the Journal of Consumer Research.

"Consumers want both to signal their identity with desired groups and to be different from other group members. This research shows how people simultaneously satisfy these apparently conflicting motives in consumer behavior," write authors Cindy Chan, Jonah Berger (both University of Pennsylvania), and Leaf Van Boven (University of Colorado, Boulder). "Is it possible to be similar and different -- at the same time?"

The authors conducted field and laboratory studies to demonstrate how consumers simultaneously satisfy competing desires for group identification and individual uniqueness. They found that participants often satisfy their need to fit in by choosing a brand that represents their in-group, but they differentiate by choosing colors or styles to set themselves apart. "For example, a snowboarder may sport a Burton jacket to identify himself as a snowboarder (rather than a skier), while choosing an unusual pattern to stand apart from other snowboarders," the authors write. Or a fashionable consumer might choose a popular brand handbag in an unusual color.

The experiments showed that participants who were concerned with communicating their social identity were more likely to choose a brand that was preferred by most members of an in-group (but not an undesirable out-group). That was especially true in categories that signify identity, like clothing. On the other hand, people with a strong need for uniqueness preferred less-popular products.

"Our research provides insights into decision making and behavior when there are tensions between motives of assimilation and differentiation, even in situations that may not involve consumption," the authors write. "For example, an employee may desire to both be an integrated team member and have a unique role in the organization. Similarly, elected politicians and their loyal constituents may wish to toe the party line and voice their individual opinions," the authors conclude.

Joe Arpaio Unbowed By U.S. Lawsuit Leads Arizona Sheriff Race

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, 79, will vie for reelection in November. The five-term Phoenix-area sheriff appears to remain the frontrunner, unfazed by a sweeping federal lawsuit filed against his office last week. But he faces five opponents and emboldened opposition from political and civil rights groups.

?He is kind of a 21st century Bull Connor,? said the Rev. Warren Stewart Sr., pastor of First Institutional Baptist Church in Phoenix and chairman of the National Immigration Forum, an advocacy group.

Theophilus Eugene "Bull" Connor served as public safety commissioner of Birmingham, Ala., during the Civil Rights movement and attracted national attention for his pubic support for segregation, defiant refusal to carry out court orders and for turning police dogs and fire hoses on protesters. The spectacle of dogs and fire hoses has been described by historians as a catalyst for the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

?Arpaio doesn?t let dogs out on people," Stewart said. ?But he does go after and target people of color. He goes after Latinos and does it often with a vengeance and an arrogance if anyone dares to question him. It?s ?I?m Sheriff Joe Arpaio and I?m in charge and nobody tells me what to do. I will not back down.??

The Justice Department last week described Arpaio's tactics as ?unprecedented?, "unconstitutional," and part of a "pattern of discrimination" against Latinos. A Justice Department lawsuit filed Thursday accuses Arpio of directing deputies to ?raid? homes, offices and businesses based on occupants limited English skills or appearance. Deputies made so many racially profiled vehicle stops that Latino drivers were five to nine times more likely than others to be the subject of a search, the suit said. Inmates in the county jail who did not speak English were denied access to translators and Arpaio worked to silence judges, lawyers and others he viewed as opponents of his tactics, according to the suit.

Arpaio last week said he would fight federal monitoring of his office "until the bitter end."

"Despite all the best efforts by this Huffington Post and publications such as yours, Sheriff Arpaio is not at all concerned about his reputation or his reelection prospects," said Lisa Allen, a spokeswoman for the sheriff's department. "He is absolutely certain that he will be reelected in November and is proud to be the sheriff of Maricopa County and feels his office is doing a very fine job despite the kind of accusations, unfounded as they are, the Justice Department is making against this office."

Arpaio's supporters describe him as an unapologetic law enforcer who has been unfairly branded a bigot by, ?a small but vocal group of Latinos,? engaged in a witch hunt, said Shane Wikfors, a spokesman for the Arizona Republican Party.

?We?re in one of these moments that is very much Arizona versus the feds right now,? said Wikfors. ?I wouldn?t agree that he?s a Bull Connor-type authority. I think he sees himself as someone pushing back against the fed government?s politicization of not enforcing immigration law. He is the embodiment of the spear in that battle.?

Until now, the major challenge in unseating Arpaio has been the nature of the suburban Phoenix electorate, said Luis Heredia, the Arizona Democratic Party executive director.

About 37 percent of Maricopa County?s voters are registered Republicans, 27 percent Democrats, and 33 percent unaffiliated, according to the county election board. More than half live inside the suburban Maricopa County cities that ring Phoenix and have their own police departments. That means most voters have not had personal contact with sheriff?s deputies, said Heredia. And many have lived in the area for less than five years.

But the Justice Department lawsuit adds to a steady stream of suits against Arpaio and his department. The litigation has a price tag that is political poison, said Heredia.

During the 16 years Arpaio has served as sheriff, the county has paid about $ 58.4 million in legal fees, settlements and judgments related to suits brought against the sheriff and his department, according to county records. Nearly $20 million of that -? or 40 percent -? has been paid in the last five years. Additional costs have been covered by the county?s insurance fund.

In Phoenix, there has been talk for years of federal criminal and civil investigations of Arpaio, said Randy Parraz, co-founder and president of Citizens for a Better Arizona, a political group that spearheaded the November 2011 recall election that removed Arizona Senate President Russell Pearce.

Pearce was the driving force behind Arizona?s controversial SB 1070 law, requiring law enforcement officers to request proof of citizenship from anyone they suspect is undocumented. It also helped to enable Arpaio?s raids. Pearce served as a Maricopa County sheriff?s deputy for more than 20 years.

This year, Citizens for a Better Arizona will organize what Parraz described as direct actions to remove Arpaio from office or ensure his defeat, he said.

?There are a few of us who can't be bullied. But you can still walk around here this week and hear even progressives talking about how powerful Arpaio is, how he?s unbreakable,? said Parraz. Parraz said he counts himself among the Arpaio opponents who have been followed and investigated because of public statements about Arpaio and his activities.

Arpaio?s power grew because many in Arizona were unnerved by people entering the state without legal authorization in the last two decades, said Daniel Ortega, a Phoenix-area attorney who is chairman of the National Council of La Raza, a Latino civil rights and advocacy organization.

?Little by little that house of cards is crumbling, said Ortega. ?It?s crumbling because the public did not say that we need to do something about the people coming into the country illegally by being downright hateful and operating totally outside of the law.?

There is only dated evidence that Arpaio?s popularity is sinking.

County-level polls are infrequent in the Phoenix area. In January 2010, the percentage point spread between people who said Arpaio is doing a good or excellent job and those who said he is doing poorly slipped to 5 -- down from a 38-point spread Arpaio enjoyed in March 2007, according to an independent poll by Behavior Research Center, a nonpartisan Phoenix-based market analysis firm. After giving the sheriff qualified endorsements in 2000 and 2004, the state's largest newspaper, the Arizona Republic, said no to Arpaio's reelection bid in 2008.

The sheriff's campaign fundraising this year appears untroubled, hauling in considerable sums from people living mostly outside the state. In January, he had $3.4 million, after accounting for $2.48 million in expenses, according to his campaign finance records.

Among the five challengers are Jose Waldron, an 18-year-old who said his campaign will not raise more than $500, and Tim Coomer, 40, a Democrat who has done the same. Democrats John Rowan, 48, and Paul Penzone, 45, had not raised any money when the year?s first reporting deadline passed in January. Penzone spent 21 years as a Phoenix police officer, part of it assigned to a special Drug Enforcement Administration task force.

Mike Stauffer, 50, a candidate with no party affiliation, raised a few thousand dollars, mostly from Arizona residents. After expenses, Stauffer had $289 at the end of the January, according to campaign records.

But, the day after the Justice Department lawsuit announcement, Penzone saw the largest one-day surge in online donations to his campaign, said Stacy Pearson, a campaign spokeswoman. Penzone?s campaign war chest topped $100,000, an important milestone because the last Democrat who challenged Arpaio in 2008 raised $160,000 over the entire contest, Pearson said.

?I think that between Penzone?s history of fair and sane law enforcement and the fact that I think that the vast majority of voters are simply tired, just embarrassed by being a national joke, a symbol of crazy, Arpaio is vulnerable,? Pearson said.

(AP) ? Target Corp. reported a 1.2 percent increase in first-quarter profit and raised its earnings forecast for the full year due to strong sales of its food and cheap chic fashions.

Target's results illustrate that Americans are beginning to spend cautiously as economic uncertainty persists. The job and housing markets are still shaky, but falling gas prices have given shoppers hope.

Target, which became a discount darling by offering stylish clothes and trendy decor under the same roof as toothpaste and cereal, recently has had some success with drawing customers with two growth initiatives. It has been offering a larger selection of foods and a program it started in 2010 that gives shoppers a 5 percent discount when they pay with Target-branded credit and debit cards.

The retailer, based in Minneapolis, earned $697 million, or $1.04 per share, in the quarter ended April 28. That compares with $689 million, or 99 cents per share, in the year-ago period. Revenue rose 5.9 percent to $16.86 billion. Results beat the earnings of $1.02 per share on revenue of $16.83 billion analysts polled by FactSet were expecting.

Revenue at stores opened at least a year rose 5.3 percent, the strongest performance in six years for that period. The measure is considered a key indicator of a retailer's health.

The strong showing came despite a weak finish to the quarter. Like most retailers, Target's business in April was disappointing as warmer-than-usual weather earlier in the year pulled sales forward.

Going forward, Target faces not only continued economic woes but increasing competition from rivals. To boost sales, the company has teamed up with unique specialty shops to offer limited edition merchandise, from dog biscuits to platform shoes. The shops were launched earlier this month. The discounter also plans to create mini shops of Apple Inc. products in 25 of its stores this year.

Based on better-than-expected first-quarter results, Target raised its full-year profit guidance by 5 cents. Target now expects earnings per share to be in the range of $4.60 per share to $4.80 per share. Analysts had expected $4.28 per share.

"While our outlook for the remainder of the 2012 reflects continued economic uncertainty, we are confident in our strategy," Gregg Steinhafel, Target's CEO, said in a statement.

Target's stock rose 84 cents to $55.94 per share.

Travel Medical Insurance:Don't Leave Home Without It ?

Whether you?re planning to travel abroad on vacation or even to take a road trip to visit a neighbouring province, be sure to include travel medical insurance on your ?must-have? list.?

?

According to a recent survey from TD Insurance, many Canadians are taking their chances: 29 per cent incorrectly believe you only need travel insurance if you travel internationally, and 35 per cent admit they have travelled out of their home province without it.?

??

?There?s a misperception around travel insurance,? says Dave Minor, vice-president, TD Insurance in Toronto. ?For instance, provincial plans, though somewhat comprehensive, don?t necessarily cover all costs you may incur as a result of a medical emergency of some type.??

??

?Provincial health insurance does not cover non-resident visitors, even if they are family,? warns David Hartman, president of the Travel Health Insurance Association of Canada, in a statement. ?The costs of medical care in Canada are higher than people may anticipate.??

??

Isabelle Forget,?head of travel, North America at RBC Insurance in Toronto agrees it?s commonplace for Canadians to skip buying travel medical insurance. According to an RBC Insurance travel survey from 2011, only 39 per cent of Canucks always purchase travel insurance when travelling stateside. Only 14 per cent of Canadians say they buy travel insurance when visiting another province.?

??

?Most Canadians don?t believe they need to purchase travel insurance when travelling to another province within Canada because their provincial health plans will cover their medical costs,? she says. ?Of international travellers, 56 per cent feel they don?t need to buy travel insurance because they have sufficient coverage through work or their credit card.??

??

Getting sick or injured while on vacation isn?t only bad timing, it?s very expensive.?The average out-of-country in-hospital bill can cost up to C$10,000 per day, and the average emergency room visit is $1,000.?

??

Covered with employee benefits? If you have group insurance coverage through your employer look into what you?re covered for before leaving home, whether travelling domestically or internationally, Minor says.?

??

?Some group insurance coverage plans offer medical coverage (abroad) and some do not,? he says. ?You want to make sure if you are covered to know what you?re covered for and what isn?t.? RBC Insurance?s Forget says travellers should still consider purchasing additional travel insurance even if they are covered through their employer.?

??

?Employment benefits may not cover all medical emergencies and/or it may limit travel benefits or have lifetime maximums,? she says. ?And they usually don?t often offer features such as up-front payments of medical expenses, 24-hour multilingual support, assistance in finding a local doctor or hospital, emergency transportation by air ambulance and coverage extending to children.??

??

Select credit cards also provide travel medical insurance. It?s critical to understand what that coverage provides for exactly and to know the restrictions and limitations in advance.?

?

??Depending on which version of a credit card that you hold, it?ll have different types of travel insurance,? Minor says. ?It could be that you?re adequately covered and don?t need an additional plan. The bottom line for a consumer is making sure you?re covered but you don?t want to incur additional out-of-pocket expenses by buying more coverage that you may already have.?Minor also highlights the need to be aware of exclusions in your policy, or what?s not covered.?Before I got into this side of the business, I took a family vacation to Mexico. My two teens were doing para sailing while on vacation and everything turned out okay. But little did I know at the time that had they suffered an accident, it wouldn?t have been covered by my travel insurance,? he admits. ?Partaking in risky activities are usually not covered ? windsurfing, bungee jumping, parachuting.?Some companies will provide that coverage but you should consult your insurance company in advance.??

?

Pre-existing conditions.?But if you?ve got what?s called a ?pre-existing condition?, travel medical insurance can get tricky. Especially for retirees or seniors, this clause can put a serious dent in one?s travel plans.?That means if you?ve got a pre-existing medical condition that?s been diagnosed and you?re still being treated for it, it probably won?t be covered but you should disclose that to the insurer ahead of time to determine whether you?re covered for it or not,? he says. ?Some policies will not cover pre-existing conditions if it?s been diagnosed or medicated within a certain period of time.?As you get older, you?ll find most insurers may require medical underwriting. That means you?ll have to get medical tests done in advance.?Because seniors are at a higher risk of being faced with health problems/issues while travelling, it?s important that they make sure their policy offers them access to a network of health providers, including hospitals, doctors and nurses, RBC Insurance?s Forget adds. She also recommends seniors ensure their policies includes coverage for communication with a physician to ensure treatment is appropriate and medically necessary, upfront payment of all eligible expenses, a 24-7 multilingual emergency line which you can call from anywhere in the world, and transportation back to Canada or transportation of a companion to your bedside.??

What kind of coverage do you need???As far as basic coverage goes, be sure your travel medical insurance policy provides for:??

  • physician?s bills
  • hospital accommodation
  • diagnostic tests
  • lab costs
  • ambulance services
  • prescription drugs
  • return airfare/transportation to bedside

But also look to see if there?s a deductible involved as some plans have them while others don?t. What?s the total coverage of your plan? A rule of thumb is the policy should at least be worth $1 million. And make sure your insurance provider pays any bills that arise upfront so you?re not out-of-pocket while out of town.??For families, look into what?s known as a family plan as it?s more economical, TD?s Minor remarks, and it?ll cover all of your dependents. For individuals, if you?re a frequent traveller it may be more beneficial to purchase an annual plan versus paying for a number of temporary ones each time you leave home.?If you?re embarking upon a so-called dream vacation, it?s worthwhile to think about purchasing bundled coverage instead of individual policies to ensure you?re protected against a trip cancellation or interruption, baggage and medical expenses as an inclusive package.

WTH Happened to Lindsay Lohan's Face? Again?

The latest iteration of Lindsay Lohan walked the red carpet at A&E's big upfronts event last night in New York, and man. Something is seriously wrong.

There to support Lifetime and her new Liz & Dick movie, Lohan showed off her new skin shade of copper, applies unevenly, and absurdly plump lips.

Collagen, kids. Don't do it.

Lindsay Lohan, Lip InjectionsLindsay Lohan, Bronzer

Lindsay's face also appears more taut and stretched than before, perhaps the result of having work done, which is perhaps the result of attempting to stave off the effects of smoking, drinking, snorting coke, tanning and emotional abuse.

Perhaps. It's just a theory.

What do you think? Has LiLo had work done?

Brammo Unveils Anticipated Empulse Models With Serious Fanfare, Sticker Shock

Brammo

?

Judging by the scale of the party they threw in Hollywood?last night-- red carpet, live performers, freeflowing drinks and bikini-clad Brammo Girls roaming throughout-- you might've guessed that electric bike upstart Brammo had automotive levels of funding. But at least they worked with carbonfund.org to make the event carbon-neutral.

?

We couldn't tell you how much cash is flowing in and out of the Ashland, Oregon-based outfit, but here's what Brammo revealed about their anticipated Empulse model: powered by a whopping 9.31 kWh battery yielding 54 horsepower, this two-seat motorcycle is capable of exceeding 100 mph. More crucially, its water-cooled permanent magnet AC motor works in conjunction with regenerative braking to achieve 121 miles of range in the city and 56 miles on the highway, for a combined SAE estimated range of 77 miles.?Unlike competitors like Zero Motorcycles who use direct drive, the Empulse incorporates a 6-speed gearbox with a multi-plate, hydraulic clutch.?

?

But perhaps even more crucial than those impressive range figures is the price: $16,995, or $18,995 for the carbon-clad "R" model. We'd like to personally challenge the concept of this?two-wheeled Tesla Roadster equivalent being worth the price of the spectacular, internal combustion Ducati 1199 Panigale, but we'll reserve final judgment until we can actually swing a leg over an Empulse.

Advantages Of PPC Marketing For Online Business | The Article ...

?

Are you curious about the benefits of PPC marketing? There are numerous ways that PPC marketing might help in making money online.

Due to the growing importance of online advertising, the Pay Per Click (PPC) marketing networks are growing in number. Google Adwords is easily the most popular ppc program for both advertisers and affiliates.

Yahoo Marketing offers a good option to Google and it also may be lower in price dependant upon the specific niche market your business is in. Bing is owned by Microsoft.

PayPerClickAcademy.com is a website that offers a detailed look into ppc marketing. They provide help in finding affiliate offers to market along with a good introduction to pay per click advertising for beginners.

Let?s look a bit more into depth on PPC advertising.

Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising pays the publishers once the visitors click on the ads. Alternatively, the advertisers benefit from it when they make a sale.

Therefore, for both the publishers and the advertisers, the PPC ads are a key source of online income. The visitors and the advertising networks also form an important portion of the PPC marketing world. Advertising can?t be placed without the marketing networks and it can?t be seen without actual website visitors.

Advantages of Pay Per Click Ads

The publisher is paid per click when the visitors click on the ads that are posted on their website or blog. One may have just one blog or numerous blogs for placing the ads.

The advertisers look for a genuine website where their advertisements are going to be shown. Because of this, the PPC marketing networks form a platform in between the advertisers and publishers to ensure that all can do business online.

1. For Publishers: Pay Per Click is a beneficial method of earning money because the visitors click the ads seeking information. More traffic results in more money from the ads. Likewise, the cost per click varies as per the keywords and the web site with higher quality content earns a great income for the publisher.

2. For Advertisers: Advertisers always need to advertise their products on a related web site so that their products reach worldwide. That results in more sales making more revenue for them. The price of the advertising is not that high because the advertisers can easily earn profits when their products are purchased.

3. For Advertising Networks: Marketing networks reap the benefits of their business simply because they get good earnings from the advertisers.

Moreover, they are able to earn more from other sorts of advertising with their websites. In short, the advertising networks also have a website that turns into a essential platform for online advertising.

4. For Website visitors: Those who click the PPC ads are sent to web site where they are able to purchase the genuine products.

Some web sites sell quality products and some websites are just for advertising to gain popularity. Finally, the visitor benefits after purchasing the product in the comfort of their home.

Online Business While We Sleep

Altogether, once we see the realm of Online marketing, it?s completely enduring based on online advertising. No matter what, new web sites are being developed by the publishers so that the PPC advertising makes a good income for them even while they sleep.

The publishers put the ads on their blogs just once and the advertisers create the adverts just once. Both of them can relax and benefit even while they are fast asleep.

The online advertising has numerous benefits; however, it also requires great consistency. A publisher remains consistent while creating a blog and the advertiser remains consistent until the profit is made. Overall the benefits of the PPC advertising are incredible for everyone at all levels.

Sharon Simmons, 55-Year-Old Cheerleader, Tries Out For Dallas Cowboys' Squad

Sharon Simmons has wanted to be a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader since her 20s. Now, at 55, the fitness model is finally reaching for her dreams.

“I thought about this when I was about 22 years old. I was a single mom, and I wanted to do it,” said Simmons, a grandmother, in an interview.

The 55-year-old cheerleader planned on auditioning decades ago, but money, time, and raising a family delayed her dream for half a lifetime.

But last weekend Simmons finally tried out.

Sharon Simmons, 55-Year-Old Cheerleader

Joining hundreds of others over the weekend to audition for the squad at Cowboys Stadium, she said: “It literally has been about the journey."

"I’ve met incredible people, I’ve learned so many new things.”

Fox reports that Simmons has written a book about ageless fitness and has won several competitions in her successful career as a fitness model.

She said: “I don’t see a number… If I do, it’s just a number. It’s not that I can’t keep up with [younger women] in the physical part of the training.”

If Simmons makes the team, she will be the oldest cheerleader in the league. She won’t be, however, the only grandmother in the NFL, though.

Suzie Sanchez of the Oakland Raiders is also a grandma ... though Sanchez is only 37. Laura Vikmanis is currently the oldest NFL cheerleader at 42.
