It was a ?six point? win.
Three points for Philadelphia, and three points stolen from Montreal.
With Saturday night?s dramatic 2-1 victory, the Union are now just one win from leapfrogging three teams in the Eastern Conference standings.
?I think it?s massive,? said Union interim head coach John Hackworth of the six point swing. ?When you can do that, it really changes the balance of things. You get back three points in the standings, but you take away three from your opponent, who is battling the whole time. We have a couple of games in hand over Montreal, so we?ve just got to keep plugging away and making sure we go after those points.?
The Union have now won three league games in a row. Hackworth?s team is on 20 points, just one point behind Montreal, and two points behind New England and Columbus.
?It?s huge, it?s huge,? explained midfielder Michael Lahoud. ?We?re keeping an eye on what we?re doing. Our destiny is in our own hands, for sure. Getting wins like this definitely keeps it that way. That?s how we want to keep on going for the rest of the year.?
The three game win streak is the first in franchise history. Hackworth?s team has one game in hand on New England, and four games in hand on Montreal.
?I think we?re right back into the mix now,? said striker Jack McInerney. ?We?re only one point down and everyone else has 23, 24, 25 points. It?s a good confidence builder for us, especially since we have a bunch of games in hand, we can build off this.?
All of a sudden, the playoffs are a real possibility for a team that struggled out of the gates.
?I think , a couple games ago, we knew it was still a long season, and that we had to play a lot of Eastern Conference teams,? added McInerney. ?So (making the playoffs) is definitely doable.?
