Huawei has announced that the Ascend D1, a dual-core, Ice Cream Sandwich-powered device, will be launched next month in Russia. This comes a matter of days after the D1 went on sale in Huawei's premier market, China.
The little brother to the as yet unreleased Ascend D Quad, the D1 is by no means a slouch. Packing a 1.5GHz TI OMAP processor, 1GB of RAM, a 4.5-inch 1280x720 HD IPS+ display covered by Gorilla Glass and coming in at just 8.99mm thick, the D1 is a pretty tasty looking mid-range device. Storage is only 8GB though, but it does pack an 8MP rear shooter. No on-screen buttons either, the D1 goes the route of the majority of ICS devices so far, and has the three capacitive buttons instead.
The D1 is available now on vmall.com, Huawei's online 'shopping mall' for ¥ 2499 (£252/$392). When launched in Russia, carrier LANCK Telecom will be picking it up. Details of availability in other markets is "to follow," and with Huawei's recent efforts to push out into the western market, we may just see the Ascend D1 in other European markets, and possibly even North America to come. The full presser can be found after the break.
